Auror Department on the Mend
Special to The Morning Oracle
SALEM, Mass. – It is no understatement that Simon Drake had a devastating impact on our world. He terrified the masses politically through propaganda scare tactics while waging a near secret war on Avistrum Castle. His orchestrated efforts caused calculated dissent and fear amongst those who should be our protectors and leaders.
Drake’s influence worked like an infectious disease as he planted his fervent supporters throughout places of public office, both muggle and magical-born. This was also notable within our Auror Department.
Even after Simon Drake was defeated, many of his followers remained. Some were placed so deeply in secret operations of the Aurors that they were not even aware of Drake’s fall from power. As more and more traitors were discovered over the past two years, this left Chief Auror Anton Tovoretski in an unenviable position.
At a press conference held immediately before the start of the Fall term at Avistrum, Chief Tovoretski did not mince words.
“We are actively rooting out the treasonous followers of Drake’s regime. Through rigorous internal investigations, our Auror Department will be rid of these remaining threats. Our numbers are depleted, but of those who remain, they are the true and just.”
Our Chief Auror then opened the floor to questions.
Gabrielle O’Connor of the WNN pointedly asked if the Dark Hunters were amongst those that he trusted.
After a brief pause the Chief answered, “Yes. While I do not agree with their vigilante tactics, nor their appointment in the department as a Special Forces unit, I have never questioned their intent.”
Ms. O’Connor followed up with a question about the dwindling number of Auror Department officers and the actions being taken to ensure there is a healthy Auror force to protect the public.
“Make no mistake, action is being taken to rebuild the Aurors,” Chief Tovoretski replied. “Retired officers have volunteered to come back into service, not only to bolster our ‘boots on the ground’ but to train our new recruits. These are decorated officers and we are fortunate to have them back. There are also standout cadets who will be exemplary Aurors in the field. Some of our recent graduates are already on assignment.”
One of these standout cadets and recent graduates is Junior Auror Storm. Storm is an alumna of Parador House at Avistrum and in the Auror Academy achieved the rank of Cadet Captain.
Storm’s marks were so impressive, she earned the opportunity to train into the elite W.A.S.P. team (Warlocks Allied for Secretarial Protection). This newly formed unit is dedicated to the protection of the Secretary of Magic.
Secretary Polonius Aberfoyle had nothing but high praise for Junior Auror Storm.
“It wasn’t terribly long ago when she was under my watch. I had the pleasure to be her Head of House back when she was a student of Parador,” beamed Aberfoyle. “Now I have the honor of being under her protection. Such is the odd way our world turns, I suppose. I could not be more proud of Storm. Her accomplishments are a testimony to the excellent training our new recruits are receiving at the Auror Academy.”
These new recruits may be signaling a new day for the Auror Department.
In recent times when optimism was seen as naïve, perhaps we can allow ourselves to gently grasp onto this simple notion of hope.
